Talking Favorite/recommended M/S recordings?

Greetings....

As a big M/S fan, I'm always interested in hearing other M/S recordings. Does anyone know of any classical recordings which were recorded M/S? Would love to hear other examples on classical CDs, etc.

TIA,

Hi John,

Thank you for that; very nice stereo imaging. Can I ask if you were using the traditional 3-track method, or were you using a matrix down to 2 tracks at the time you tracked it?

I ask because I get very different results between the 3-track method and using something like the True P2's M/S matrix. Not better or worse; just different.

Thanks!

Mid-sideily,

Here's a nice one: iTunes Store - John Williams - El Diablo Suelto - Guitar Music from Venezuela

KM83 + 414 in fig 8.

Also, the Jeff Rodrigues set in the Soundcloud link in my sig was recorded using Schoeps MS.

On those, which were recorded a few years ago, I used an Audio Developments MS mic. pre. and recorded straight to stereo on DAT.

Nowadays I tend to record Mid and Sides on channels 1 and 2 on my Nagra VI and use the Voxengo plug-in (v2 now available) in Sequoia to get the stereo.

Hi David,

Nice! Thank you for sharing that. What was the distance from the performer to the mics?

May I inquire as to the pres, and same question: 3-track M/S or a 2-ch. matrix?

Kind regards,

Hi John,

Thank you for that. Really nice work. Distance between performers and mics, if you don't mind my asking?

Kind regards,

As far as I remember it was about 2-metres , certainly less than 3.

MKH 30/40 on a stand with the four clarinettists in a slight semi-circle in front of them.

The distance was just over a metre. Chain was Schoeps MK5/MK8-DAV BG2-Peter Engh Sonic Orbit-Mytek 8x96 ADC@24/44.1.

The Sonic Orbit meant that I went straight to stereo without using a console or decoding plugins.
