Question 4 Piece Gospel Choir recording

I've been recording a band for the last 3 months and one song in particular has a really scrappy 50's sound about it. Jangly guitars, Rooms drums and a pretty distorted vocal thing going on. We're going to go all out with the theme and try a gospel choir on it, something which I have never recorded. We have 2 male and 2 female vocal who are all happy to double up and blend for a bigger overall sound and this is to be done in a fairly large live room.. I have various mics at my disposal (u47, u67, royer 121's, dpa4011's, 451's c414's etc) plus a selection of Pre's and Compressors, but in a 3 hour session I kind of need a little headstart in terms of capturing the sound we want to be inkeeping with the rest of the song..

Im thinking more room micing than close up and individual but i could be wrong... And if so, what kind of mics and how placed?

Please help

Nervous :-s

Here is what my pinhead mind is suggesting: spot mic the individual singers with good cards. If it is a good room I would run an ambient omni pair, too, and close, say 3' to 6'. I would pan the individual soloist's mics into the mix to match where they are in the omni tracks and bring them up to enhance but not overpower the omni's.

That's my best guess. I would like to see wha the other more experienced folk suggest.

Cheers

I would pair up the two male vocals on one mic and do the same for the two female vocals.
I'd also add a stereo pair to capture the room tone.

You have a nice selection of mics to pick and choose from, so go for it!
