Syncing to Video

In my experience in audio I have not had the need to sync with video for any reason. As things are progressing, it looks more likely that this will be necessary in the coming months.

So how is everyone syncing to video? To give a little background, I will be running a FireStudio Lightpipe interface and an HD24 recorder with the Lightpipe as my primary and HD24 for backup. Everything will be recorded in, or brought into Logic Pro 8.

I also have Soundtrack Pro for later down the line in editing if that makes any difference. I called Apple and the they didn't seem to have an answer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Looked through all the results, still didn't really find what I am looking for.

Basically, I am totally unfamiliar with the process and just need a quick run-down of how it works.

EXAMPLE:
So here I am, multi-tracking a live event through my interfaces and i am receiving __________ signal from the _________ source to keep the video and audio in "sync".

Now video has their recordings, I have mine and who does what first???? I would imagine I would go along with making a full-length mix (or similar) of the event and send the master of the video department so they can link it with their video (start time) and then chop away to create the "tracks" (chapters i supposed)

Any elaboration on how to receive the clocking/syncing/reference and handle it in Logic 8 as well as the general procedure would be such a great help!
