Well, simple answer I got from my friends who are violin players was there is a lot of respect for the DPA microphones. I did a bit more checking and found a thread with a lot of violinists on there. New DPA 4099 Miniature Microphone for violin players ViolinClose miking a violin Not a bad read. |

Of course those products are basically geared towards the live sound world. I would never use a 4061 or a 4099 for a solo violin recording. DPA mics are indeed great, but if you room lacks, they'll show you exactly how much it lacks. Can't get away with anything with DPA. --Ben |

I wholeheartedly agree with you. DPA mics are deadly honest. I think the easiest solution is to find a room that has good acoustics before anything else. I've been fortunate to study classical voice with some great teachers and the one thing I learned is even if you are singing a song that is written for one voice it is a duet with the space you are performing in. You have to listen to the room and find what works best for the final product. I agree with that. It's kind of a general rule. Know the room you are recording to me seems like an axiom. It's similar in theme to never answering a question about how a woman looks in jeans! Some things you just don't do! | |

The room for an acoustic instrument is like the amp for an electric instrument - hand in hand. And once again, the humidity in the air matters for the sound. To dry will make a dry "lifeless" sound....And I prefer having the temperature not to warm. Let's say at least 50% relative air humidity and about 17-20 degrees Celcius. Just some numbers working fine around here.
