Thread Starter | CAD 7-Piece condenser VS Shure Custom Drum mics setup?
there is a local studio here that recorded a drum track with a 160 dollar set of drum mics the CAD pro 7 piece....in a pro studio room... yet i recorded a drum track in my small bedroom with 6 shure sm57's, and 1 shure beta 52 kick mic... it sounded great, and i feel that dynamic mics are better than condenser on the percussion side of things... i cant stand hearing snare and kick in the cymbols mics...... and vice versa... any thoughts? This was before i built my studio, and my drum tracks sounded MUCH cleaner, and much more presence! |

I don't consider overhead mics as cymbal mics, so I cannot imagine why I wouldn't want the entire drum kit in my overheads. For me, the overheads is 70 to 80% of the sound. Adding any other mic into the overhead blend is there for definition. Furthermore, why don't you upload some samples of the two sessions, so we can vote with a clear understanding of what happened? Would you rather have us guess on what happened instead of actually listening and making our own definitive decision?

what i mean is that the shure beta52 provided more of a kick and cleaner, and the sm57's all the way around provided a more crisp warm sound and overall was a better deal.... yes i will post some in a bit.... |
