Talking Return clients after being 'poached' from you

I didn't want to further sully the other thread with this side question. thumbsup

When you guys lose a client to another studio/house due to being intentionally undercut/poached, what is the return rate?

I frequently hear folks say how their quality of work brings in the clients, and it keeps them as well. I'm wondering if quality of work is really so important to people these days that they'll come back to it after a bad experience with 'quantity'.

Act... don't react. Build it and they will come back. Show some maturity, instead of insecurity and you will win the war of attrition. Keep building on your good work, and the clients that change to another studio will want to come back because you are the KING!

1. I had one client go with someone else who seemed like a "better deal" last spring. However, turns out the post-work she needed was not included in the rate. The performer emailed me several months after their tracking session asking about editing/mixing/etc, but never followed through. As far as I'm aware, the project still isn't finished.

2. I had a potential client decide have a friend take care of an important recording premiering his compositions instead of hiring me. Two weeks later, he asked if there was anything I could do about clipping and distortion. I was doubly sad, because it was gorgeous music too.

A couple of weeks ago a live sound company I work for often lost a job that is coming up this summer. They went with a guy that was going to provide a couple of Mackie SRM450's per side rather than the 12 box line array that we brought last year. It didn't take long for them to realize that the other guy couldn't meet the rider and so now we're back on the gig.
