Talking Have I Done the Artist & Her Song Justice Yet?

I've had the chance to do some live multitrack recording at The Historic Blairstown Theatre, and the weekend before last was amazing - and sad. Amazing, because Friday there was a double bill of Neal Casal and Steve Forbert, and Saturday an artist I had not heard before, Susan Werner. Sad, because it looks as if the venue won't make it past this coming weekend. At least not with the same booking team and audio engineering talent. Maybe it will go back to being an indoor soccer rink.

Anyhow, Susan Werner gave me the OK to post this song, and I'd like opinions from the remotesters here. I'll give more details after people have had a chance to comment on "The Night We Won the War" http://thenextsong.com/Download.html which Susan sang as a solo encore (she was there as part of a trio under her name).

Note: to download the file, right click and 'save link as' if using FireFox (or the other browsers probably have similar language). I also posted the file here on gearslutz under the Works in Progress section: A Song About Election Night - 2008

Thanks

john

I tried to open that file, but could not, so I cannot comment on your work.
Perhaps this is why no one else responded to your request.

Thanks for responding. I had to right click and 'save link as' in order to download it myself to verify that it uploaded OK. There are things I like about my web hosting company, but file handling is not one of them. I like having a file ask me if I want to save it or open it, but I'm not sure how to describe that behavior in asking for help from their 24 hour chat (which - based on the names and language usage - seems to be based in Russia). Fun and games.

I record some and my main thing is writing lyrics. I don't want to become an internet expert, but it looks as if I'll have to try.

In the meantime, I posted the file itself here on Gearslutz under A Song About Election Night - 2008 so if you get a chance, let me know if that works (I did a direct transfer from the URL to gearslutz, and I'm astounded how fast it loaded - maybe I'll have to change my luddite dial-up ways :-)

Again, thanks for responding.

best,

john

I haven't had a chance to listen yet, but I've recorded Susan before, she's pretty amazing.

In my opinion, it sounded like the piano needed to be more upfront to match the vocals or the vocals needed to be mixed back to match the piano level.

The piano sounds like it was captured at a distance, but the vocals were close mic'd.
This doesn't sound natural to me.

What do you think about the recording?
