Steve, what about closing that thread with a link pointing to this one? It seems like that's getting more attention than this more up-to-date version.

Nuendo on PC laptop here.
MOTU hardware scaleable to (theoretically) up to 72 inputs. Never needed more than 30.
Backup usually to D-2424 or HD 24 via MOTU's ADAT outputs which will pass signal even when computer crashes.

Oh, and film sound still goes to Nagra 4.2, if client lets me do that. No backup needed.

HD all the way with me, so far. Like the "masters" (I'm pulling your legs!) I mix to 2 track, but use that as a safety copy. I also write to a CD recorder so the client can have an instant copy. I prefer to mixdown in post, I do better work that way. I'm not as good "on the fly" as some! My go-to rig is an HD24XR to MLink for two track. I'm phasing in a Logic 8 DAW (Apogee converters), but I don't quite trust it or me enough to make it primary!

DAW (Logic/Ensemble or Logic/Mackie Onyx FW desks) with Edirol R-09HD stereo backup, and usually a "live to stereo" CD in a Tascam burner racked with the Ensemble. Most gigs are 5 inputs or fewer. Largest is 16 (Logic/Mackie Onyx 1640).

As you would expect the 2009 results so far are much different than what was happening in 2002/03.

If you haven't replied yet, which device is your favorite way to record live?

Hi,

I use Sequoia (DM 2000 + RME Madi Pcie)for Multitrackrecording (as Backup, normaly not used) +
2 x DV RA 1000 + DA 48HR + Samplitude (Laptop + FF800)for the Stereo Live Mix Master + Backups

I voted for DAW, but still use some older techniques.

Regards
Marcus
