Hi, Gearslutz newbie here. I've gleaned a lot of information from the site over the years and have never needed to contribute (because I really don't know that much about pro-audio gear) or post a question simply because there's so much information. So here we go, my virgin gearslutz thread... My guitarist and I have been searching for a relatively inexpensive pre-amp/DI to improve his live sound. He plays a Taylor dreadnought that simply had a piexo pickup under the bridge. There is a lot of information about acoustic instrument pre's in the high end forum, such as Pendulum SPS-1 system (which looks really cool.) Has anyone tried, or is it possible to run direct to the board using only the phantom powered module(s)? Would this provide a balanced signal and enough level control to go direct to the board (or some other pre) where it could be eq'd? Personally, I run all my basses through an Avalon U5 (and love it,) but I don't think he's really in the market for something that expensive. So budget is ~$300 or less. I would like to stay away from digital processing devices that will inevitably have latency and other digital artifacts like the Line 6's, DTAR's and Fishman Aura's. |

Any opinions on the Summit Audio TD-100 vs ART Tube MP for Acoustic Guitar. I know that the TD-100 has a good following among bassists, would the MP have similar results as far as warming up and adding some output level to an Acoustic Guitar?

The Radial PZ Pre is a great box. Actually, anything Radial is fantastic. If you don't want the EQ, boost, etc. that the PZ offers, look into the JDV, JDI, or J48.
