Howdy; I suppose this is my first post, though I've read a lot of posts on here. I'm nobody anybody knows, but I do location recording in Lubbock, TX. Right now, I am set up to do 2-track recording (Shoeps CMC64, 2 Seventh Circle Audio A12 preamps, and an Alesis Masterlink, with a laptop + a 12 channel firewire interface for backup). Most of my business is doing audition tapes for college students, though I do demos for bands in their practice spaces. Anyhow, I am trying to put together a solid, portible 24 channel rig that can do live concerts. I would like a Yamaha o1V96 + ADAT card and 8Ch pre/ADAT converter. This would go via Adat Optical into an Alesis HD24. I have used the o1V before like this, though not exactly in this way. Can't the preamps in the o1V can be split at the channel inserts (via digital routing) into the ADAT outs? Does anyone else do this or can at least confirm that this is workible? Is there an interesting alternative to the o1v? Basically, I would be using it for monitoring, preamps, and ADAT conversion. Maybe I sould get a cheeeep analogue board for monitoring and three nicer micpre/ADAT converters? But that seems just as expensive as an o1v, and I could also do quick mixdowns to my masterlink on the o1V instead of mixing on my computer (where I prefer to mix). |

why not an LS9-16 with a presonus digimax96k? LS9 with adat out card option plus the 8 channel presonus through the adat out too.. just connect three optical cables and 8 analog jacks in the HD24 and you're done... for better preamps the ati/api 8mx2 will do the job very well.. hope this helps. Bests, Cheu

What you are describing should work fine... You can go direct out on every channel that is coming in. In the menu for direct output routing, you can specify if you want that direct output to be pre or post fader. From what I've seen, it is hard to beat the O1V96 in bang for buck with recording. For live FOH/monitor mixing, the LS9 may have more functionality, but IMO the analog front end on it does not sound as good. Be aware if you are looking for 24 channels that 4 of the analog inputs do not have microphone preamps- they are line in so you'd have to use your other pres if you want mics in those inputs. --Ben |

Thanks. I think that the o1v96 will do nicely. Anybody have any tips for purchasing one used? I am going to start calling used AV dealers, but if anyone has a tip to save me some time on that kind of purchase I'd appreciate it. I am a little reluctant to try eBay,which is what I usually do, as they don't come up all that frequently. |

I love my 01v96/HD24 combo. 4 independent headphone mixes at zero-latency! Incredible! (Not really, although in these days of dysfunctional PTLE headphone mixes, the HD24/01v96 is a true Cadillac amongst a bunch of over-hyped Hyundais.) There is a users group at Yahoo somewhere. I never go there because I never have any problems that need to be solved. The only issue I've had in the last four years is if you leave the 01v96 on for a couple of months, the pan pot slows down. After you turn the thing off and back on again, it works fine. I should probably turn it off more often, eh?
