hey folks- here's the down/dirty: i need to get out of my Presonus Digimax 96 mic pres using the DB9 port, and then into (if i go this direction) into a Lynx Aurora 16's DB25 port. i've seen a cable before that turns a DB25 into 2 DB9 heads, if you know what i mean...i guess one half is for input, and one half is for output 'cause the Lynx DB25 port carries both digital i/o. so i'd rather go port-to-port instead of putting pig-tails on the output of the Presonus DB9 port and pigtails on the end of the Lynx DB25 port and connecting those....though this may give me more flexibility in the end. lastly...and here's a million dollar question: has anyone used the Lynx Aurora 16 using the Firewire card to get 32 channels of 48K audio into a Macbook Pro? i know that's a pretty specific question, but i thought i'd give it a shot... thanks, marty.

Marty, how did you work your issues out? Did you end up wiring your own cables?

so long long long story very short, i bailed on "plan A"...which was buy a new Lynx Aurora 16, get the necessary DSub cables so that i can get 16 AES/EBU in from my Presonus Digimax 96 mic pres, and 16 analog ins from my other Presonus Digimaxes...for a total of 32 inputs. this was my first over-24 track location recording, and i only got the gig w/ 6 days warning. i had my Alesis HD24XR already in-place, so i had to come up w/ a way to record up to 32 tracks, and have a backup recording too. i've been lusting after the Lynx unit for some time because i could also use it as a front-end to my eventual PT rig. well, to get right to the point, i decided now wasn't the time to try a whole new system of recording (did i mention this was a live concert shoot for a documentary on the artist, so there was little room for error or experimentation), so i bought another HD24, and a Lightpipe-to-firewire box so that i could go entirely analog out of the Presonus mic pres into the 2 HD24 units and lightpipe out of the same Presonus mic pres into the lightpipe-to-FW bridge box...which is a whole other story in itself.. i'll start another thread that'll be more of a gig report. thanks for asking Steve, marty. | |
