...this EMI classics recording in 1998?Beethoven: Piano Sonatas Op.13, 14, 22Ludwig van Beethoven (Composer), Stephen Bishop Kovacevich (Performer) I just heard it on my car radio and was blown away at how intimate the piano sound was. I've heard this piece many many times by other artists, and never really got a sense of the strong emotion in the piece because the piano sound was either distant, or sterile. On this recording, I could even hear the felts engage the strings as the sustain pedal was released.Obviously, I was moved by the recording. So much in fact, I ordered a CD so I can hear it on my Dynaudios.

You might want to look at this allmusic ((( Stephen Bishop Kovacevich > Overview ))) and this Beethoven: The Complete Piano Sonatas; Bagatelles Op. 119, Op. 126 [Box Set] at MusicalHeritage.com If it is EMI or another classical label you can contact them and ask for more particulars such as the recording engineer's name if that is important to you. Best of luck!

Thanks for the links Tom.I'll find out who did the recording when the CD comes, I was just hoping I'd be lucky enough that someone invoved in the project saw this thread and could give me some inside info on what mics, preamps, etc. were used. A very long shot from 1998, I know. Just wishful thinking.Bill
