Question Undoing a pad.

Good evening.

I have recorded a live piano recital, but got into some trouble. Accidentaly, I pressed the 20dB pad on one of the channels, which was running that way for several seconds until I realized and switched it off .

Is there any way I could "undo" it and turn it back to its normal level?

Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Easiest route (not sure of the results) would be do boost it 20db in your DAW for those few seconds. Try it and let us know how it goes.

Yes, I agree -- that's the best solution.

The pad may have added a different tonality to the instrument, but you will know for sure once your add the 20 dB of gain in your DAW.

Let us know how it worked out.

Yep. Volume match the quiet section. Then you'll likely have to do some transient repair for any switch noise that occurs at the edges of the edit.

Hi there.

I think I got to solve this problem. I did what all of you recomended: I opened the mono file (right side of the pair) with Sound Forge, selected the padded section, and applied 20dBs of gain to it. I had to do some spectral cleaning on one edge in order to erase a clip.

I´m enclosing two files for you to criticize them:

I´m also enclosing some photos of the process and the different waves.

Thanks for all.
