Hi all, I'm a videographer and it looks like I'm going to get into shooting weddings...those are where the gigs are at, and even in this economy people are getting married. What I've realized is that doing video for weddings is an intense business. It looks like I may have to invest in some pricey wireless mics. If I were to do this I'm thinking 1 lav and 1 handheld, and the transmitters and receivers. These will be useful for other gigs too. I have heard the Sennheiser Evolution G2 is highly recommended. Is this the consensus? It's expensive for me, particularly if I have to buy 2 units. The lav is most important, I could get the plugin later for an sm58. What I am thinking for now to significantly cut down on costs is to get a lav I can just plug into my Zoom H2 sound recorder. I will need this for moments such as wedding vows. Any thoughts on a good lav for this purpose? I think omni pickup would be best so the bride comes in too. Since I am not doing this for music (mainly talking not singing) I would be inclined towards cost over quality, but I'm sure there are some great mics out there at a competitive price. Let me know what you think, thanks! |

While you want to save money, don't cheap out on wireless mics. Sure, you could spend $150 on one, but it WILL fail during a performance. You need something with selectable frequencies and fairly rugged. I think you're on the right track with the Sennheiser. They are my favorite wireless mic; not the cheapest but the best bang for the buck.

Be careful of interference issues, especially WRT interference from digital TV stations. Do some research and snoop around at the Federal Clown College: Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Home Page.

Thanks Bishop and Chris. I will take seriously the G2 recommendation. At this point I'm thinking of just getting a lav to plug into the H2. It will save me money till I can afford the wireless, and should get the job done as long as I have the right batteries. Any suggestions? thanks again |
