I'm joining a band as vocal. They have good instruments but not a PA section. I'm completely noob about what a singer needs to buy! I know the club has a PA but the place they rent does not. Also, I play keys and guitar. I would like a club style setup so I can keep my high end amps at home and practice on the PA. Do I need ones with built in amps or the new all in one plastic looking kind? I tend to think separate amps, please advice remote gods... (I hope this is the correct forum) Do I need 15 inch or can 12 inch work? Music is rock but I have a sub bass synth (think Rush Synth bass) AWESOME speakers ... EV 12" cabinets ... for keys, guitar, DJ's

Will this be used for the audience or you just need something for your practice space? If it is the latter then look for a monitoring system, something that you can take with you to clubs. As you probably already know, most clubs have terrible on-stage monitoring so having your own would make life easier on you. If it is for the audience then you're going to need something a little beefier. You'll probably want subs to get the low frequency energy across (kick, bass, synth) and at least one 12" or 15" top per side. That's a start. There are many powered options out there, check out the QSC stuff for a good bang for the buck. JBL has the PRX series which might work for you. Given the link you provided I'm assuming that you want to do this on the cheap. Just know that you get what you pay for, so good luck.

The band tours 15 times a year? So they're probably playing venues or clubs with PA systems. You should find out what you're trying to accomplish before you start buying things.

Those speakers you linked to are from the 80s I think so I wouldn't even consider them for PA. Get more info and let us know. | |
