It's really up to you.

It's about the sound you're going for.
Do you want a quality sound or a dirty sound as "that" special effect.

I've seen it all -- there are all sorts of ways to can do it.

No rules, just rule breakers!

Go for want works best for you and how it affects your pocket.

In any event, what did you end up doing?

if you go that route and only give a wet feed be prepared to have no foldback.

Yes, but usually you would split the signal for provide dry and wet feeds to the FOH/MON mixers.
I've also seen a dual mic set-up. One mic goes to the FX box and the other is direct to the live sound system.

The singer can move the mic towards their mouth or move them self to the mic when the effect is needed to be heard.

Ursula Dudziak was using this on-stage effects technique decades ago.

Remoteness, Iv decided the TC systems are to much money and not lots of info out there on what I should buy. No local demo and only "Singer songwriter" youtube videos.

The digitech though, cheap enough "Wonder box" can do it all and if its a turd then I'm only out $200, not $700.

I used the difference to buy a prophet 600 for $500.

I am going for a butthole surfers sound with a loop station.

Some of the items Gibby uses:
Koss pad
Furman PL-8 (fancy rack mount surge protector)
Digitech RDS 7.6 Time Machine (digital delay)
Zoom 9050 (half rack multi effects in a full rack adapter)
Digitech RDS8000 Time Machine (older model, digital delay)

Yes a proper splitter is desirable before any box, and a quality splitter than any sound guy would be happy to pu into a system. Personally ive never dealt with anyone doing this kind of thing of thing that is setup properly. some people dont seem to care about foldback so its fine but others get pissed off when i say sorry its just not possible to get to the level you want. im not saying this kind of setup is bad, just that people thinking of this kind of thing have to be prepared for the reality of things in a live world.

this is a great way to do things, ive done it with rack fx but theres no reason it couldn't be done with any kind of unit. sure i could of just turned up the fx when needed but it gives the control and creativity back to vocalist when a band is using an in house sound guy it really lets them get what they want.

at the end of the day though ive found most bands get what they want without the worry if they just say to the foh guy they want some delay though these songs. having that kind of communications makes a show run much more smoothly as well.

Jay, the options have been mentioned and i urge you to take the effort to do it right for the sake of your own performance.
