As a programmer I am guessing they dropped the C/C+/C++ code in some sub-routines for some really tight Assembler code. They may have even subbed it out to a wizard.

Bottom line: higher sampling rates.

I am downloading my upgrade now.

Cheers

PS - this from the SD site concerning higher sampling rates: Make certain the signal sources, such as microphones, etc. are capable of generating signal audio bandwidths above 20 kHz. There is little utility in doubling storage requirements to record an octave of nothing.

Today it's christmas...

I'm just downloading the upgrade and I can't believe that they've fixed nearly all "problems" of the 788t.
Meanwhile I'm a very happy user of the 788t and I'm looking forward to record classical music with it'S 96K bandwith.
I never expected that all 8 inputs could be set to 96K now. I would have been happy with just 4 ones.
But this is really great.
Also a great thing is that now you can use the CL8 in a more useful way if you just record single tracks when no mix is needed.
The pre/post setting of the faders makes a smooth levelling easy now.
Perhaps they will feature the limiters also on higher sampling rates above 48K in the future.
We will see. After the first few weeks working with the 788t I'm absolutely happy with that machine.

Regards

Markus

Is there any reason NOT to own one now? Other than the cost...

The CL8 faders are digital and had a zipper noise when knobs were turned. I wonder if they fixed that in this firmware upgrade. If anyone who has one notices a difference please let us know.

Another very happy Nagra VI user here, but I got to hand it to Sound Devices for making an excellent product even better... bravo.

I remember a fellow in Germany who posted here on that subject and it later turned out to be his error. It was some gear he had other than the 788T.

Yes,
this fellow was me. And I'm still shaming about.
I've updated my machine to the new firmware and it works proper so far I can say.
You can't hear any zipper noise.
I will do many test recordings the next days and I will post the results if anyone is interestet in.
The 788t turned into my personal "dream machine"

Regards
