Hi all, Really need your help here. My band is supposed to perform in a big festival in a few month, and we've been asked to provide a technical rider for the show. So far we used to have a very basic one as the places we performed in were mainly club, while this one is about to be taken place in a big stadium. We need to have this completed by tomorrow, and my main concern is that we'll miss something in the setup we request, or the format we use to describe it. If you don't mind, please take a look at the document we currently use, and either add your stuff or format, or have your remarks here so I can go on and complete it... | There will be some back and forth (likely). You may want to name one mic for kick and request slightly better mics for OH, HH etc. Do you need a drum riser? How high? How big? What about monitors? What's the smallest stage you can play on? -tINY |

be sure to detail what equipment needs AC power, what voltage and where on the stage the outlets need to be. are you using monitor speakers or in-ear? anything wireless? give them the details of any effects used by the musicians - guitar pedals, etc. bring all the instrument cables you need and a couple of mic cables, just in case. spare power leads / kettle plugs too.

ameture? surely you mean amateur? maybe, just maybe, whoever is engineering the gig might like to know what to expect in the way of effects coming off the stage. i know i would. but maybe i'm just an ameture... |

comments about the rider are really based on what I would term a festival environment. bunch of bands, short turn around times, setup and go. it's about speed and efficiency. if you are not traveling with FOH then you will be at the mercy of house + monitor engineers. generally not a bad thing if there are a bunch of bands on before you as it gives them time to dial in the system. do not expect a lot of hand holding and do not ask for a lot of hand holding. stress is a big factor at these gigs, try to step on as few toes as possible. thoughts on your rider: -put a band name on it -put a contact name, email, phone on it -even better, a cell phone that you will have on you at the festival -put an identifying name for each person (easier to yell a name instead of HEY YOU in a festival environment) -keyborads is spelled "keyboards" and doesn't need (stereo) in this instance -your 2 "lead vocals/guitar)" name them Stage Left (SL) or Stage Right (SR) since neither are listed as center -15. Keyboard should really be named 15/16 for stereo or split mono -AUX 1-5, most people call those "Monitor Mixes". If you won't have your own engineer there then you can always do a basic detail for each mix. ie: Monitor Mix 1: Gtr Stage Left (Kick 25%, Snare 25%, Lead Vox 1 30%) and so on. AUX 6-8 if you are thinking those are for onstage mixes, chances are you won't see those. most standard festivals won't have these items at the monitor console and your chance of getting these as foldback from FOH are slim. -make sure that they know that you have TWO LEAD VOCALS that will be sharing duties. as others have stated- power, riser specs, etc should be listed though within a festival environment should be relatively easy to take care of. get your stage plot on a seperate page by itself and if you can also show monitor positions, that would be helpful. detail your acceptable list of backline gear- even better, have the backline company send you a list of what they are providing. depending on who's headlining (or who arrives first) some gear can easily be picked over or "claimed" by someone else who has more pull. remember- in most festival situations gear and backline gets staged for easy stage changeovers. there could be 3-4 drum kits in various timelines of being setup or taken down. of course i could be completely wrong as your situation could be something different but this is from doing regular old rock/radio festivals around the country. | |
