Talking Classic Arts Showcase anyone?

hey do any of you Remotesters ever watch this free channel on TV?

I enjoy it and find it quite relaxing when I'm around the house.

The content is varied and not too lengthy to keep my interest.

I also really like centrally scrutinizing the live shots to see if I can pick out mics and placements.

Just saw one that was a bit puzzling.

Perhaps one of you learned masters might shed some light here?

Zubin Mehta was conducting an orchestra with four vocal soloists facing him on the same platform as himself.

to ZM's left and right was a pair of mic stands, one in front of each vocal soloist about 36" distant +/-.

On each stand was what appeared to be a spaced pair (maybe 4") of Schoeps CCM facing directly forward.

So for four singers there were EIGHT capsules. In fairly close proximity to the singers and to each other.

This seems a bit excessive.

why would one stereo mic each soloist so close together??

or was something else afoot??

there was an array visible also some distance directly over conductor's head, as well as individual hanging CCM for sections.

thanks for your suggestions,
walter

Thumbs up

I've only seen it a few times (most recently this weekend). It's a really great channel actually, and I' was going to contact them to see how they collect their material and whether the accept submissions for their library.
