For any of you football fans out there, I thought I'd report on a recent session for the updated NBC football theme music which debuted during the superbowl broadcast. I was playing tuba on the session. You can hear the new theme beginning at 1:34 of this video. (click the "watch in HD" button for good audio) YouTube - NBC Super Bowl XLIII Pre-Game Intro with Faith Hill (HD Quality) It was recorded in New York at Avatar studio A, using a 29 person orchestra (17 brass players). Mics I noticed being used: Trumpets: 2 Coles 4038 Trombones: 2 Royer R-121 Tuba: ElectroVoice RE-20 Horns and Woodwinds: Avatar has a lot of U87/87ai and a whole bunch of these were in use over the woodwinds and horns. There was also a "decca tree" using three Neumann U87 or U67... (I didn't take a very close look at them.) |

I was the recording (and mix) engineer for that session. Awesome tuba sound ![]() BTW, they were U87ai's on the Decca Tree, 87's on the horns and winds, 87ai's on the Timp. |
