What really suprises me is that Decca's main income over the last few years has been in repackaging it's archive, even in this economic climate it's catalogue is so extensive that it must have quite a lot of value, even as straight forward re-issues. I don't buy the colapsing and re-issuing under another label somehow getting them out of contractual obligations on old recordings. I would suspect that most recordings were paid for in the main with only prs and mechanicals (on a small number of their titles) being due, this would still be the case if these titles became available on a "phoenix" label and I would suspect that any artist that was due "royalties" would probably have a contract to protect their royalty should the recording be sold to or issued on another label.

Regards

Roland

You have a point, but I have given up trying to understand the maze of financial tricks and evasion schemes in the corporate world. After all we don't even know, maybe the brand survives and there just will be no more new productions?

After all there MUST be a major reason, why well established and recognized brand names have been given up and back catalogs been reissued under new no name labels.

Yep, Music Week states today that Decca is "to realign, not to close".

Music Week - Universal: Decca to re-align but not to close

Classical crossover artists are to be shifted to a different label on Universal. Apart from that, the article seems to suggest it's business as usual at Decca.

Once again, Lebrecht got it wrong!

Always interesting reading, but appears to live in a parallel universe.

I'm mildly annoyed at myself for having believed him. I should know better.
