Exclamation Mobile Rigs In UK... HELP!

I'm looking for a mobile setup in the UK...
i know cenzo's got a setup, but I'm looking for other alternatives as well...
I basically need everything: pro tools rig, mics, mic stands, leads, pre's, DI's, monitors, and something to monitor just a protools stereo mix output...
anyone got any ideas?

i used fleetwood in 2005 to record rufus wainwright and his band at the birmingham
symphony hall - pro tools + 2" 16 track x 2 + 48 channels of api pres - the results
were fantastic - i think they have changed their name.........
also an amazing euphonix desk for monitoring - 100% analog
with total recall

be well

Sensible Music have flightcased and multicored rigs for rent.
The one illustrated on their website is kinda dinky, but I know they also have
- 48ch each of:
BSS active splits for main and backup systems
focusrite red 1 pres,
choice of PTHD, Sony 3348x2 ( yes, flightcased...), Adat, DA88, etc
Mackie 24-8 x2 for monitoring (or whatever else you want)
ATC s100s (or whatever else you want)

Sensible Music Ltd: Welcome

Talk to Jeff or Jon Moon

It might also be worth your while talking to John Fredericks at Technical Earth - Here

He could probably put something together for you - or suggest who else you might try.

Fleetwood were bought into the Sanctuary Group some time back, then bought themselves out (management buyout) a few years ago (just before Sanctuary fell apart). Sadly they're currently in receivership, no longer trading, and the owners of the equipment and vehicles have had most of the loose gear, mics, flightcased/flypack rigs sold off.

Malcolm Jackson (mjq) has two of the trucks for sale (the small Euphonix truck and the SSL/API trailer - details of both on his website, together with the 72 channels of remote controlled API pres (lotted as a 48 channel system and a 24 channel system) not all of which work but they're probably all fixable) and the larger Euphonix truck is currently in Germany on a long term hire and it's future hadn't yet been decided when I last heard before Christmas.

If you need a rig, however, Mike Silverston, who was the tech manager, then general manager at Fleetwood, is still around and can do the same things with ProTools/Pyramix/RADAR/X48 etc. (indeed he's been running the truck in Germany). PM me if you want his details.

I'd offer to help out with a rig but I have Pyramix, SADiE, Sequoia, HD24 and RADAR rather than ProTools, I do however have a fair quantity of analogue desks, preamps, outboard, reasonable mics, cables/optical fibre systems, stands, etc. if they're any use.

DR - cost me 400quid ish for a 24channel split/pre setup plus ambience mics and sundries to HDR to do Daniel Johnston at Union Chapel (a gearslutz-organised gig!). That was through FX....Adam was a good person to speak to there.

I know you'll have thought of FX but even so....

Tim summerhayes, the main engineer at fleetwood, now works at red tx..
He's done any artist you can imagine.
They have an awesome truck with a studer vista 8, and they're goood..
The remote market in the uk/europe is not so good, so a truck is not expensive to hire..
However, you do need a generator or serious power supply, so that might ad up..
Red tx also have de-rig packs..

I did a live recording last month in London and used FX rentals (FX provides all the audio equipment resources that you'll ever need for live and recording - 24|7) for all the kit I needed (Midas desk, splitters etc...) and was very very pleased with their service.

The kit was at the venue exactly when it was supposed to be and worked perfectly from start to finish. Every item I asked for (even down to a couple bal j-j leads, and the EXACT amount and length of XLR cables) arrived exactly as I had specified and all WORKED perfectly. Every channel of the looms and multi-core were rock solid.

This was not a huge job but I put all my faith (and, ultimately, the sucess of the job) into FX and they provided exactly what I needed, when they said they would.

Hi there

There are a couple of other lesser know alternatives - Total Audio who are better known as a major kit supplier have a mobile called Tardis which is small footprint but high track count. Peter Knowles is the owner and has millions of years BBC experience. You could also try Floating Earth who have a very nice truck based in Perivale London. Steve Long is your man there. I would say both options would be a lot less than fleetwood or hiring in from FX.

Steve Long here from Floating Earth. Best way to contact me is by e-mail over the next week since I'm travelling - steve@thesoundcorporation.com

We have a mobile truck and 3 carry in rigs. The truck has an SSL C200 desk and can handle most live situations

Best
Steve
