Here's some of the first binaural recordings I made of a friends band. I just thought that some of you might enjoy listening to it. I made it a 320 kbps 48 KHz MP3 for the highest in MP3 quality yet still small size at less than 8 megabytes. The original recording was a 24 bit 96 KHz wave file. BinauralRecording_bcgood_2008.mp3 Cheers bcg P.S. Listen to this on headphones if you can.

Just a little more info on this recording. This was the bands practice and they sit in a circle to practice so I kind of had to make due in regards to the binarual dummy head placement. I basically just placed it in an unobtrusive place behind and above the sax players with the drums way out to the right behind everyone else and some of the trumpets to my front left facing me. This was recorded in a church hall that wasn't very large. The ceiling wasn't very high with those white boards and fluorescent lights. Even though it's not ideal I honestly haven't made a ton of recordings with this rig yet and I enjoyed listening to it on headphones so I thought I'd share it with my fellow Gearslutz that might be interested in listening to some mellow big band music on headphones. |

Unfortunately I didn't take a pic. For those interested in listening to a wave file I made a slightly smaller version at 24 bit, 48 KHz since the 24 bit 96 KHz file was over a 100 megs and wouldn't fit on mediafire. BinauralRecording_bcgood_2008.wav

Nice, we are there in the middle of the instruments What is the dummy head ? Just a little too much of 4-5k than can be heard especially on the paper noise at the end. JMM |

Ok just one more short sample for anyone interested. This file has absolutely no processing of any kind no dither, no gain adjustments etc. I like this purist approach of not doing any post processing at all. Also, if you look at this under spectrum analysis you can see that there is information that goes beyond 35 KHz which is kind of cool in my geeky opinion. ![]() Cheers, bcg 24_96_sample_bcgood_binaural.wav |

Sorry to bump this again but I wanted to show anyone that is interested some new recordings now that I have finished the dummy head. Now I finally have the mics inside of the head and so I messed around making two recordings in my living room today. The first sample is acoustic guitar. I was standing a little more than a foot away from the head while playing. Then I placed the head on the coffee table behind me and played some piano. The head was to the right of and behind me maybe around 3 feet behind the piano itself. Let me know what you think of the recordings if you get a chance. Thanks bcg |

Could you post a picture of the head and how you built it? I am looking for a binaural head myself (on low budget...) Thanks |

Thread Starter | Thanks, yea the piano is definitely out of tune. I installed a pair of Naiant MSH-1's in it. I'll take a photo soon and post it. I'm going to put a male Donal Trump wig on it to see if I like the way it sounds with hair. I figure I have hair so that must effect the sound no? Might be pretty funny either way.

I'm very much going to do this! The hair will make it extra- creepy if nothing else- enough to change the vibe in any setting :P Which mic pair would you suggest that they currently make? http://www.naiant.com/studiostore/microphones.html |

I should find a little electronic device that says, "Your fired" to place near the dummy head; or perhaps not, might be kind of dumb idea. ![]() I'm not sure what current Naiant mic you should get, I feel really lucky because the MSH-1 matched pair that I got was a great deal. The frequency response is extremely flat. I've been really impressed with these mics to say the least. Very lifelike sound. I've also noticed that the captured frequency spectrum with these mics extends extremely high.
