Question Can a Sennheiser MKH8000 pair work with a Rycote Stereo Extended Ball Gag?

Hi all this is my first post for gearslutz.. (yay) ..

anyway im just wondering if anyone has had any success in installing a Sennheiser MKH8000 pair in to a Rycote Stereo Extended Ball Gag. ?

in addition i was wondering if anyone has had any experience using a pair of 8050's for location, SFX, and general environmental field recordings?

ATM i pretty much have an option of getting a pair of Used Schoeps CCM4's & a WSR MS LU mount, fluffy, Windjammer & Gag. Or for roughly same price a new pair of 8050's and new Stereo Extended Ball Gag kit.

any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hi MK,

Yes, the MKH 8000 series is fine in a Rycote Stereo Extended Ball Gag (works in exactly the same way as the Schoeps).

Use the heads only in the Ball Gag with remote cables. The latest Stereo Extended Ball Gag has a good clamping arrangement for these cables.

Rycote can also do a special ConnBox for the rig with two mini Sennheiser remote cable ends with a ConnBox cable terminating in a 5-pin XLR - but this is rather expensive as Rycote have to make it specially from cut-down remote cables.

The MKH 8050s are only sold in singles normally, but you *can* order a matched stereoset if you want. This would be a special order (extra cost) and the two 8050s would be matched at the factory specially for you.
