i really want a powered rack mountable mixer ( as many xlr in's as possible )for both recording and live shows as a P.A. I'm triing to stream line my stuff. anywho , i just got a great deal on 4 , 12 inch p.a. monitors.they say 8 ohms , 200 watts peak.so does this mean if i use them i am limited to getting a power amp with only 200 watts of output? Or can i get something with , let's say 600 - 800 watts output on it?

Might I suggest the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook. No offense, but it sounds like you need to start from the basics. Powered mixers are okay for small PA work, but if you're trying to do multitrack recording they're probably not what you need. I don't know of any rack-mounted powered mixers, but there are some decent ones by Soundcraft, Allen & Heath, even the Mackie and Yamaha units are usable.

I second what the Bishop said. Reading that book is a very good starting point. Furthermore, I would stay away from powered mixers for live recording. It's just not how it's done. If you want to streamline your rig, get a decent (rack mounted or not) mixer, a couple of graphic EQs and some powered speakers and away you go!

Cool. Also consider clicking on some of the "Popular Tag" searches you can find at the top of every thread or on the top of the main forum page. "Live Sound" - "Board Console Desk" come to mind off the top of my head. There is plenty of information for your review -- Good Luck. I hope this helped. |
