Question Help!! - Got a question about FPS / Drop Frame

At some point I knew a little bit about Frames Per Second and Drop frame and all that stuff but not anymore.

I am doing location audio after doing strictly music for a couple years and I don't remember a damn thing about frame rates and all that stuff.

Right now I am doing location for a Doc....

Right now am recording to an edirol r 4 pro.... I am not syncing to the camera...we are just recording the audio and video completly independent and syncing it manuely in Final Cut....

We aren't locking time code or jaming time code or even using time code to sync the audio or video well we are shooting....and we aren't using time code to sync the audio in post.

This is an email I got from the editor today:

" All the audio is syncing up quite nicely, one thing I forgot to tellyou was that I am shooting in Non Drop Frame mode.. not sure if yourrecorder can do the same but either way the sync is pretty dope. "

If I am not using SMPTE does it matter if i record the audio in drop frame or not? Can I change the frame rate? or is this strictly only something you need to do when your using SMPTE?

You're not using timecode, so this is utterly, very and totally irrelevant

You might already be doing this, but do an on-camera clap and ident everytime the tape starts rolling..

See thats what i thought.......

but i figured if that was the case the editor wouldn't have asked me.... As I assumed the editor knows more about timecode and all the crap then I do.

yeah we are just doing a on camera clap.... just like a manuel slate i guess video people might call it?
