Here are some pics and clips of my very first attempt at real mobile recording. The setup was simple; presonus firestudio, laptop with Cubase LE, pair beyer mc930 (room and organ), pair 414 for ensemble, and the house choir mic. Not a lot to work with, and very difficult to position since it was live and I couldn't put mics where I wanted them. This was just a test recording anyway. The final cuts will be re-recorded with just the ensemble and choir and I'll get to put mics wherever I need them.

| I'll look at this later - nice looking organ. I hope the organist was good. -tINY |

| Not bad at all. Sounds like you learned a little something about placement of the chimes. You might try something with more low-end at a distance for the organ. That's always a hard thing to balance, though. -tINY |

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I agree with the low end in the mic placement. Unfortunately, I was extremely limited in where I could set up mics. I REALLY wanted to get a mic closer to the pipes! Oh, and I should also mention that when I got there I had no idea where I was setting up, where I could put mics, and even exactly what I was recording. Yes, I did learn a lot. lol. Not sure if you saw, but I also posted my second try at location live recording with a jazz band. I had a lot more flexibility there... and some nicer gear. |
