This popped up over on TS. Looks to me like a styrofoam ball on a stick. Spherical multi lobe mics are not new, either. Grado may have something here. But so far what we have is about two years worth of pictures. I sure would like to know if it works or whether this is just a build-up for a hustle. Waiting patiently; well, not too patiently.

You mean this mic? Yeah, I got to play with one (the 4") last year. I'm not sure how holographic it is, but it had an incredible low end, especially on pipe organ.

Do you know what the commercialization plans are?

What did you think of it?

Mike, OK, you have tantalized us. But to specifics. It has a good low end compared to what? Is it better than the DPA omni's? Can you tell us anything about the number of channels it records, the format, decoders, if any, and so on? I am not going to run out and buy one as my mic locker is pretty good right now, if sparse. But, I am foolish with money in this area, so one never knows. I sure would like to know a lot more than I know already about the Grado rig.

As far as I know Grado is getting ready to distribute them to the market. I have to say that the low end was the best I've ever heard from a mic, especially below 30Hz. Beyond that, I think it needs to be flown or boomed up high to sound its best. The picture I posted has it about 7ft. off the floor.

Mike, what did you record? Looks lie it was organ. And better than the LDC DPA's. That is saying something. Casn you share more with us about the session? I am interested but am not running out to buy them. Too broke right now.

I am eager to hear what more you have to say about this new wrinkle.

It was chorus and organ. I'll post some clips over the weekend.

Neat...now I just cross my fingers and hope this mic isn't far, far outside of my price range (but probably is!).

I hope to hear the soundclips.

If it's not made out of wood, I'm not interested.

clown - thanks for reviving this - i would be really interested in hearing how this mic performs. i think it puts out four tracks that you manipulate as needed during post - i would love that kind of versatility.

Sorry guys, I haven't had any time to post up anything because of my impending move. It may have to wait 'till I'm in Denver.

Mike,

If that's what it will take to get you there on time, it's all good here!

Best of luck - have a safe and pleasant trip!
