I need some assistance. I recorded a show (4 tracks/channels) on a Sound Devices 744T. The file came to 3.3GB. My Pro Tools (version 6.9) says the track is unreadable. Any ideas? I would really appreciate any help. Is it possible to split the 3.3GB file on the Sound Devices 744T somehow? Thank you |

does anyone have an answer for this? It will save me about 5 hours recording real time into pro tool and then trying to line up tracks 1/2 with 3/4. I wont get an answer from Sound Devices until Monday and that will be too late. I have read the manual and can't find a solution |

Can you open the file at all - listen to it? Did you try any other app? Did you try SoundDevices' Wave Agent? Different version of ProTools in my experience act differently....is your file a poly or mono file? If poly, can you split the file into mono and try again with ProTools? good luck, Karl |

I can only listen to it through the 744T. Pro Tools will not open it. I'll look into Wave Agent. Do i download that from the Sound Devices site? It is a 4 channel recording. Thanks Karl |

Go to the sound devices website - download is free and the very very useful app runs on windows and mac ;-) RE polyfiles: no matter the track count you can record it either as wav-poly or wave-mono. In the polyfile all tracks are written into one file (can be split later), when choosing wave-mono via the setup menu of your 744 for each track there is a single mono file written out. I suppose you recorded poly. So, first drag them files onto your hard drive on your computer! Forget protools for the moment. Do this be either connecting your 744 via firewire (cable) and just drag the files over. If there's a problem with that (no firewire or such) you could also transfer the files from the 744' hard drive unto a flash card via the flash card slot on the 744 and then attach the flash card with a usb reader to your main computer. THEN check if you're able to play back the files from your computer hard drive. At this point you will have found out that a) the files were correctly written and are not corrupt and that the problem now is with importing into protools or b) there's something wrong with the files per se. Probably not but things happen. Open the files now with wave agent to see how they behave. Use Wave Agent to split the files into mono files (if poly) try to import mono files into ProTools. Also check the file data in wave agent, if there's anything uncommon or so, like sampling rate etc. report back ;-) Karl |

No, it's not about better but about 'workflow'. Did you try to import the mono files into ProTools? What format where you actually recording....? Karl |

The 744T records as WAV. I successfully imported the 4 mono files into PT6.9. It's for a radio show. Going to add commentary now in Pro Tools

Great - you've succeeded! I asked re file format because the 744 is also able to record to an mp3 format. It's possible that newer versions of ProTools learned to digest poly files....you might check up on that. Karl |

Newer PT (7.4) does accept ploy files - but it names them wierdly (a.1, a.2, etc.) I recommend De-Interleaver, a free download, wich splits the files nto mono and lets you name them as you wish. Lou |
