Any tips on good active monitors for doing Pro Tools & Logic production on the road (mainly in hotel rooms)? Looking for something light with a small footprint, Price doesn't really matter. Will not be recording bands or mic'ing any instruments, just editing and playback from the DAW - 'cause I'm sick of using headphones! ![]() I use Mackie HR824s at home.. but have been wondering if some Genelecs might be the way to go? - M www.myspace.com/morganpage |

I use K+H O110D for mobile monitoring. The PMC DB1SA are a similar size but sound different -Genelec, you either love them or hate them. Unless you want low end monitors like the little Edirols?

I can think of a couple things you may like- Quested F11 is a very small and really good sounding monitor speaker. Also, something like the EMES Owl may work for you. I'm not a huge fan of them due to the tricks they use to get a stereo pair in one speaker, but for a hotel room where you need small, it just may be a good move. If you go Genelec, the small ones sound decent (used to be 1029, but I don't know the new numbers). They need a sub for serious work, but once again, they are small and portable which would work well for you... --Ben |

Active speakers tend to be quite heavy.. Unless you take the supersmall genelecs.. sound like cardboard though.. Why not a HD600 headset? |

I got a pair of Audioengine A2s for less than $150 and they fit the bill pretty well. The low end is a little weird, but usable once you get used to it. They are small and loud enough for their size. I've also used JBL LSR25ps, but they are huge step up in size and weight. I'll use them for location stuff when I need to get louder. Edwin |

TELARC, for on location monitoring and mastering, uses ATC. i think i will buy a pair of ATC scm 16, the smallest of all ATC. they are only 17 kg. at each one. i think no monitor is at that level for that price. i think genelec is not appropriate for on location acoustic recording, they are to my ears too much coloured. best regards, F. |

I can vouch for the Genelec 8030s. Not the most impressive sounding speakers around but they do the job and actually have more bass then expected from them. It's a very clever system for remote gigs. I bought them with a Genelec bag that keeps them nicely padded and a pair of power cables / audio cables in a side pocket. They also have a very nice feature, you can put them on a pair of mic stands or use the included stands that let you angle them appropriately if on a table. | |
