...I feel like posting up 2 sections of Britten's Ceremony of Carols that we recorded last weekend. I'm sure the glass of Cabernet I'm holding has something to do with it. Just 4 mic's: (2)DPA 4041's on the Forssell and the Cascade LD2 in X/Y cardioid near the Harp. The Cathedral has 4 seconds of natural decay time, which is perfect for this piece! No Grammys, but I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Nice job as usual, Mike! They don't want the master, do they? ![]() How about a shootout? I posted a recording I made a few days ago of "This Little Babe" in another thread, here: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/3714918-post13.html Cheers! Mike

Naw, churches don't ask for rediculous things like my Hi-rez master HD. Only "professional" groups do that. Thanks for the comments, Mike. I wish I could have had the quiet of your recording space, as this church is on a very busy street AND there was a Christmas parade going on 2 blocks away. 5 times through the HP filter and once through Izotope NR still didn't remove it.

I a currently taping rehearsals of a local chorale getting ready for the Messiah. I have been using a pair of 4006 TL's in a Williams spacing and a CMC64 + CMC68 Schoeps MS. They are within inches of each other on the mic stand. So far I prefer the sound of the DPA's as less colored. I have used a pair of CMC64's side by side for soloists in the past and they are fine, but at a distance the DPA's have, so far, been the better. Has anyone else like experience? I thank you guys for posting your recordings. It is fellows who share what they are doing and how that helps keep me from being an utter fool.

I'm not sure I'm deserving of such praise, but it's sure good to know that someone other than me can appreciate the hard work and the resulting sound. I absolutely LOVE the Harp! It's my favorite classical instrument and it moves me like nothing else. Here's another clip from the concert. It feature the Harp and a 12 year old singing the solo. Magical... BTW, it's hard to go wrong with the DPA's no matter how you use them.

| I've been yelling this for years when people describe DPA as "bright" or "brittle". It's because they're meant for a diffused field and really shine when you need detail at a distance. The Sennheiser 8040's have been a less expensive alternative for me.
