| Lives for gear |
Hello, I am about to record classical recital in a medium-sized church with decent amount of reverb. My choice of equipment is : (2) Audio Technica PZM's (not sure how to place them, how to spread them apart, the best placement and such, and they have a background hum too, although sound natural) any suggestions ? My other microphone options are: (2) Rode K2 (Tried them in the same space before, didn't like the sound: MySpace.com - Ethnotronik(Roko Djokovic) - New york, New York - Classical / Electronica / Experimental - www.myspace.com/ethnotronik the tracks are LASI and Carolina Tango) I also got: (1) AT 4033 (1) AKG C4000b (1) MXL Small Diaphrame condenser (1) V67 MXL Any suggestions what would be the best selection of these and placement as I'm only using 2 inputs on crapy M-box I going to Ableton Live Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You are going to want to use a stereo pair, but you only have a pair of the PZMs and K2s. How were the K2s setup last time? You might just want to try a different setup, such as Blumlein. I don't use PZMs but someone might chime in...I can't imagine a scenario that they would sound good as free-field mics. You could also go for a stereo setup with two different mics and see what happens. The v67 and C4000b would probably be the closest match? Or maybe the 4033 instead of the C4000b. |

I am not sure I like the color of K2's Last time I had them spaced in cardioid 6 feet from the source and 6-8 feet apart. I was thinking making the MS pair out of C4000b and MXL small diaphrame. Would that be a good idea? |

Oh, I didn't realize the C4000b was multi-pattern. Yeah, sounds like a plan.

Thanks for the encouragement. Although I think MXL 991 sounds pretty good, my only concern is AKG4000b sounds kind of dark and bassy... |
