Well found Steve. Absolute gold.

I don't think anyone who saw Buddy Rich play ever forgot it.

I heard he had terrible pains in the back and playing drums didn't help. But he is one of the best, if not THE best...thumbsup

I was 16 years old when my highschool jazz ensemble went to see BR play in Hilton Head, SC. Small club, big band. As a drummer I listened to a lot of BR (anyone remember The Original Drum Battle??), and this show blew me away.

A couple of things that really stood out for me:
1. he would get a groove going, then call a tune number. The band had about 3 secs to find the music and setup before he counted off.
2. during the big drum solo at the end of the show, he went from playing the drums to playing the drum stands to playing the drum sticks against each other. I've never figured out how he managed that last bit. It sounded like a woodpecker fight.

What a performer! Supposedly, a real a-hole to work with, but...

I guess Buddy Rich was floating & rotating on his drum set before Tommy Lee...

...perhaps not as efficiently, but it's Buddy Rich baby!

Buddy Rich brought great meaning to my life. He's like Mozart. I'm glad I've been able to live in a time when he was.
