Angry Edirol R44 cf & USB door

I just got my Oade Bros-modified R44 today. It looks real cute, and it sounds nice.

But I already hate it--because the cheap & stupid rubber flap that covers the CF slot and USB port is held in place by a cheap plastic plug that broke THE VERY FIRST TIME I TRIED TO CLOSE THE F--KING THING!!!!!!!!!!

Now it's hanging out like a busted zipper.

Not so cute anymore . . .

Anyone else have this problem?

Since the Oade Bros work voids the warranty, I guess I'll have to hope Edirol sells a user-installable replacement.

GGGrrrrr!!!!!

Well, Edirol does NOT sell a replacement. My option is to ship the thing across the country for a repair. Will take several weeks.

Plus, the serial number sticker already fell off--even though I noticed it was loose and tried to tape it down. I'm looking for it, because I haven't even registered the unit yet.

Not good . . .

(The R-44 records to SD, not CF.)

Have you tried emailing Doug Oade?

It states on the website that the mod voids the warranty, but Oade offers some type of 90-day something...

Yes I emailed him. But it sure seems nuts to have to ship the thing back, and not have the use of it for 2-3 weeks, over this kind of silliness.

Somewhat annoying indeed! And no consolation that I don't recall hearing of such problems from others, and I read a lot of R-44 posts on various forums. I wonder whether it's been stored or shipped under high temperature conditions that have deteriorated the glue on the label and the pin on the door? Wild speculation I guess...

Mine's just come back from repair after developing a power input fault - apparently in essence a blown fuse inside. I can think of a reason why that might have happened so I'm reluctant to blame the device. Other than that, the only problem I've had is an 8GB card that died somewhere between it being taken out of the R-44 and being inserted in the PC. Now I'm inclined just to leave the card in the R-44 all the time and transfer via the (rather slow) USB connection, to be sure.
