Talking Gig Report: 2 Days with Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers

I just got home from a two day recording gig with Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers. Day one was Friday at the World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. The following morning we headed to Albany to the Swyer Theatre at The Egg. Although a 3-piece band they were all multi-instrumentalists and needed 32 tracks. The rig was True Precision 8 preamps into a pair of X48's. Monitoring and a rough 2-track mix was done on a Mackie SR32 and headphones and sent to the HHB CDR882.

The first night was a great setup at the World Cafe. We took over the vacant monitor world spot and even took the tails that usually go to the house monitor console. The splitter and snake stayed in the truck. The staff at this venue was a pleasure to work with and the room sounded great.

A few hours after this show we were off to Albany to The Egg. A little bit of a pain to get the truck to the dock since the theatre shares a building with the state legislature, but once we were inside everything was perfect. We ended up setting up record world inside the freight elevator which was just behind the stage curtain. It was as wide as the stage and around 12-15' deep, so plenty of room to work with.

Below are pictures, input list, and mic selection.

Nice.

Do you have anymore (wide shot) pictures of this set up?

Also, how did you like the M160s on the drum kit?
And, what about the MKH8040 on accordion?

I should have taken more pictures. Here are a couple of shots from the Albany show. The freight elevator is in the background, closed. We had to wait until after 3:00 for it to become available so we built everything on stage then pushed it in.

The M160's on drums are perfect. The band engineer called for all the extra mics; I had a pretty decent drum sound with the kick and two overheads. The MKH8040 sounded excellent on the accordian. They only played one song on accordian and I was hoping for more of a chance to listen to it. I'll post a clip of the accordian track.
