Awhile ago I started a thread about my Lavry micpre, which had broken and tech support wanted too much money to look at, but Dan Lavry then took personal responsibility for. The other day I got it back and used it for the first time in about a month. After three failed attempts at delivery, I had to drive south of the city and try to remember where the UPS depot is located. I don't understand why UPS only delivers during the hours no one is home. Anyway, after picking up the package, which they were nice enough to put in a new box, I tested the micpre and A/D, along with my Royer SF-12, then recorded a recital in a difficult space the following day. I attached an MP3 of one song. Though I use a lot of equipment, this micpre brings an unusual peace of mind while working on a show. When people ask me about it, I say it's like having a volume knob on the microphone itself, as it sounds exactly the same at any gain level. No 'character' and dead silent at +70 dB, this is the micpre that adds no sonic artifacts to the signal chain. Though I've read a couple criticisms of it not being 'musical' I do not understand, with classical music anyway, how staying out of the way is unmusical. In remote work, where a lot of gain is the norm, the Lavry's digital gain readout is especially handy. Most rotary gain knobs get a little difficult to match towards the top. Move the knob a millimeter too far and you're too high or low. When you aren't alloted enough time to fuss with settings, like a typical day in remote work, this preamplifier makes life much easier. Using it yesterday reminded my how much I like it. I am grateful for Dan's willingness to fix my micpre and after a couple years of use, I can say that if I didn't already have a blue, I would be checking out Dan's new MP-10, it looks fantastic.

Nothing to compare it to, but it sounds damned nice. Hats off to Dan Lavry for his actions. Sounds like a class guy. Is there some bass interference at ~17 seconds into the piece??
