Question which coax cable for MADI

What cables are confirmed as good for ca 45 meter runs of MADI.

Van Damme 278-075-000 and 278-175-000 are my cheapest local options.

I need these to be sturdy for location use.

I've got Van Damme on my system, only short runs but it feels like really good quality cable and I can't see any reason for it not to fail physically. 45m shouldn't be a problem for length, coax is usually good for 70-100m.

Regards

Thanks roland,
I will be running 26ch of 96khz over these cables coming from a Euphonix 713 going to a DAD HD/IO.

I have no experience thus far with these two units and how well they handle long runs. If someone has experience with these I am all ears.
Which one of the van dammes do you have?
the 278-175-000 seems to have much better attenuation figures, but may not be available on short notice locally.

ps you ahve a double negative up there that you may want to edit

I had Redco make custom runs for my rig. I use Gotham SPDIF/Coax 75ohm at hundreds of feet without a single problem!

As well as the properties of the cable chosen, to some extent, the distance achievable with MADI over co-ax will depend upon the drive capabilities of the output stage of the MADI transmitter and the sensitivity and discrimination of the input stage of the MADI receiver.

Using an RME MADI bridge as the driver and various other RME boxes (MADI Bridge/ADI642/ADI648/HDSP-MADI) or a Merging (Pyramix) MADI-2 daughterboard at the receiving end, I've had no trouble at all with running 64 channels of 24/48 over 100m of standard 75 Ohm co-ax (Bryant MVC 333C or Canare LV-61S ). Using lower loss cable (Bryant LVC 500C) it's worked fine over 150m, even in fairly electrically unfriendly/RFI heavy environments. I haven't yet tried any of the various digital video cables as my ordinary analogue cables do what I need and they're paid for If I want to use longer runs, I have some optical fibres.

Ime, MADI is a fairly robust signal and, as 45m is a pretty short run and nowhere near the normally quoted limits for electrical MADI, I'd expect it to work via pretty much any bit of wire capable of passing usable composite SD video over that distance.

I don't know how the Euphonix/DAD equipment copes with sending/receiving MADI over long distances as I've not (yet) had to use it in that way but I'd be very surprised if it couldn't cope with a 50m run.

Great responses so far!

I think it would be tremendously useful to have more equipment specific reports on successful and failed combinations including track count and sample-rate.

My personal experience:

Coax madi: potentially unreliable, if cable is somewhat damaged ( showing copper near connector for example) ;What happens: ticks and crackles... For example when you slam a door of a remote truck.. :(

My solution: no more coax ..ever.. only using fibre..

24 tracks of DSD here. I have done 32 at 24/96 and 16 at 24/192 using DAD AX24 converters

Seen this? The fiber optic link came in handy when...
