Question HD24 -> Fireport transfer problem

Hi,

sorry for crossposting with the Music Computer Forum, but I thought maybe somebody over here could also help:

we just came back from an 48 track mobile recording with Alesis HD24s.

The whole show recorded 4 hours 40 minutes.

After transfering the files with the Alesis Fireport, the last 20 minutes of the show, won't playback.

The files loop and crackles and plays wiard phrases (only on the last 20min). Also the generated waveform looks greyd out.

I tried it with opening in Logic / DP / ProTools, as I thought maybe a LogicPro problem.

Furtunatly on the HD24 everything is fine, so I transfered the last 20 minutes analog, but like to know
where the problem is....

The Files size of the individuell HD24 tracks is 1,2 GB each.

thanks,

Wolfgang

Don't want to hijack your post, but I have problems with larger drives not even starting in the fireport. Alesis support was not really that supportive.

In reference to the above post, don't know if this would help, but there is another whole set of tools called HD24 tools that may help. I have not used them yet, but with this fireport problem I have I am thinking about getting a bay for my computer (if that is possible) and trying HD24 tools.

I had a similar problem once as well. I extracted 24 channels at once and my resulting 24 files were the first 4 channels repeated 6 times.

My eventual solution was to fireport them one at a time and then I was able to pull the correct 24 channels.

It's kind of odd that only a section of your file seems corrupted though. I would also suggest trying HD24Tools to see what happens.

It's the Fireport's power supply. Mine did the same thing. Contact Robert Ray at Alesis (rray@alesis.com) and let him know what's going on. I don't bother talking to anyone else as Robert gets service done fast.

Cheers,

+2 on Robert Ray, he's the only guy to talk to.
Hope you get it fixed.

I won't use pitch correcting software. I use "coaching" maybe you've heard of it. It keeps working even when you don't have it on.

I guess Robert Ray doesn't handle technical support and RMA's over at Alesis anymore. I e-mailed him and a Rob Griffith responded to my e-mail. The pisser about everything is since I have had my Fireport for 4 years they won't issue an RMA and want me to directly buy parts. Before I spend anymore money on the Fireport I am going to look into HD24 Tools and a bay for the computer. FYI the power supply is $30.

Wolfgang, your operating system and filetype could also be an issue, specifically with file size limitations. You may already know this.

If file size limitation is a problem, HD24 tools can break up large files during import from the Fireport, and then you just put them back-to-back in your wav editor.
