Thanks Daire,

I really enjoy giving back (some of) my experiences to the GS community.
I've done things my way (right or wrong) for three decades. Many times I'm spot on with my decisions, some times I have to learn from my mistakes. I guess they're really not mistakes if you learn something (grow) from the experience.

I never had the luxury of using the Internet to find out how to do things when I started out -- In a strange way I think that was a good thing.

Milab Microphones:

I love those mics for choruses, choirs, vocals, room mics... I even got a nice tone out of an acoustic piano that had no tone.

I emailed the fine folks at Milab and got permission to buy & sell their mics in the USA. At the moment there isn't a USA distributor. I was a Milab dealer some time ago. When Group One Ltd. (the USA distributor at the time) and Milab fell from grace we lost our dealership.

I'm trying to get some orders together before I put my first PO in. Their pricing is in SEK so, I must place the order most efficiently to maximize the SEK to USD conversion. This calculation and timing is key...

In any event, I'm very happy to know I have access to their product line again.
I would like to purchase at least 2 more VIP50s and 4 more DC96Bs.

Billy Cobham:

Hey, that Spectrum record was one of my favorites too. I believe that debut record came out right after the Mahavishnu Orchestra stuff was happening. Most of the cuts were quartet performances with Jan Hammer, Lee Sklar and Tommy Bolin. I forget the other musicians but, Ron Carter and Joe Farrell were on one or two of the cuts. IMO, he was and still is the greatest fusion drummer of all time!

The drums and bass were solid on Spectrum! The sound was fat and tight! Ken Scott recorded and mixed that record. He was one of my favorite recording engineer / producers of all time. I was buying records based on the fact that he was the engineer.

Man, Ken Scott was recording, engineering, mixing and/or producing all kinds of music styles back then...

Procol Harum
David Bowie
George Harrison
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Elton John
Lou Reed
Stanley Clarke
Jan Hammer Group
Jerry Goodman
The Tubes
The Dixie Dregs
Devo
Frank Zappa
The Jeff Beck Group
Missing Persons
Tangerine Dream
Level 42
Supertramp and
Al Kooper, to name a few...

Steve, you de man!

I'm off to France on vacation in a few minutes so it's rush time. I'm going to check into those Milabs when I return.

Regarding Billy Cobhan, another really cool album is "the Funky Thide of Sings". Check out the horns on the first title...absolutely brilliant! Ken Scott certainly has a fine list of credits, a great engineer indeed.

I've ordered an 8MX2. If I like it I'm going to go for 3 more and I should be ready for most things.

Stay cool.

Daire

Daire,

Have a wonderful holiday in France!

"Funky Thide of Sings" is an awesome record. Thanks for bringing that one up for us.

Its official, I shall go into my basement to pull out all my groovy vinyl records so I can transfer them to CDR.

Man, you ordered only one ATI 8MX2 -- Believe me; you will like them very much.

Thanks Steve, I did have a wonderful time. I'm back now and dying to chase off on a live recording! Looks like I've three different bands to record at a local venue here in Dublin this weekend. The 8MX2 had better arrive on time as I plan to use it for the gigs. I will post the results.

All the best,

Daire
