Slightly OT:

This is also something that Ken Scott has stated, seems like the TG console wasn't met with much love when it first was introduced. I see similarities to the ole digital/analog, hardware/plug-in debate.

In most cases, we all prefer what we are used to, often with good reason. But often, we just focus on aspects of what we don't like about new gear/technique/gadgets and only being to realize where we actually might prefer the new stuff until much later.

Just a thought.

I believe Michaelangelo made his own paints for much the same reason that artists today do seek out certain brands of certain colors or also make their own. They look different!
This is what I am talking about folks.

He was probably pretty picky about the paintbrushes he used as well, I'd hope so.

That was Columbia's 30th Street studio. The desk was made by the staff. Obviously an all-tube desk. Audio was recorded to AMPEX 350 or 351. They also had Presto machines.

In my opinion, audio quality in the early stereo era is awesome. I dig that rich, fat, all-tube vibe, even for classical.

The early Beatles desks were recorded on Redd desks that were designed for classical. I've read that the Abby road main engineers didn't even want to work with the Beatles when they came because they thought they were above that kind of music and they had to work late sometimes.

I find so many recordings made at Columbia's 30th Street studio is some of the best ever made, in the Jazz field..! Fantastic musicians and arrangers combined with top notch gear and "vibe". [Gil Evans never sounded better].

Listen to many of the records made after that period in small dead studios and artificial reverb took over -
&%¤¤%&

And it was not just for Jazz, many of the Simon and Garfunkel records sounds very good, especially the early ones, that was made with less processing...

...and Glenn Gould recorded there...

...and later this gem was just demolished - what were they thinking
