Talking Musician Ambience

I recorded a really cool group of musicians tonight at a church. I made the recording with my binaural rig which captured all the depth and beauty of the space. I can't present any of the songs of the rehearsal but I can present some of the ambience I recorded in between takes which I think actually still sounds really cool. One of my favorite albums, Jars of Clay's first self titled album has a hidden track that just plays orchestral ambience for over ten minutes and I love the way it sounds. So in that spirit, I present this clip for your listening pleasure.

Cheers,

bcg

Can't seem to get the file from MediaFire (invalid key error) However, would you be opposed to providing some technical details on the recording process? Such as mics used, recording medium/interface, preamps, room characteristics, mic/room positioning, pictures of the venue, unique challenges pre/post? etc. Not sure about others, but I would find this information highly useful.

A very short clip of the music (say 10-15 secs) would be a bonus (or PM the music clip if you'd rather not share to the world). I'm not so much interested in the performance but rather the sonic results.

The link should work now. I'll be happy to talk a little about this sound clip provided that after you listen to the sound clip you describe exactly what you hear in detail. What do you hear?

Cheers,

bc

You've certainly captured the spaciousness of the cathedral pretty well. I did note quite a bit of sibilance in the highs and a light amount of hiss (I suppose from pre-amp gain?) With such a large amount of reverb, I'm wondering what the overall blend of the music sounded like - especially with bass drum and cymbals. What other detail specifics were you looking to discuss?

There's not really any hiss in the recording there is however obviously room sound. Maybe it's your headphone amp or your monitoring situation? What did you listen to this clip on? Also, just so you know there was no eq added to this recording and the term sibilance is usually used to describe accentuated S sounds from vocals.
