| Gear maniac | Guys/Gals, I'm doing a live recording Saturday and am looking for some advice on mic selection (and more importantly technique) on recording the above instruments. Since these are dissimilar from 99.9% of the recordings I've done, a little advice will go far. I'm looking for some short cuts on where to mic each instrument (i.e. where should I look for the sweet spot, etc.). Also, any mic recommendations will help me out as well. Thanks in advance. Jim |

| I have close mic'ed tablas from above in the past with great results. If memory serves we used AKG blue line stuff. The Harmonium is a bellows blown instrument so avoid putting the capsule of any mic directly into the air flow. You may find that the performers have advice to help you with mic placement. It also sounds as though judicious placement of a stereo pair may be your friend on this session...
