Question Building a recording van; What kind of soundproofing is best???

Hi
I'm about to build a on location recording van within a Ford transit van.

How have you guy's done the soundproffing? Anyone who know's of any good material to use that doesn't take up to much space.

Hard to find good pictures of any build.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Fredrik

First of all click on the "Mobile Unit" and "build for Remote" tags at the top of this forum's main page.
You'll find plenty of threads about building mobile units by clicking on those tags.

Also, check out this thread...

Tom's mobile unit build diary

There are some nice pictures and descriptions for you to absorb.

Once you have checked that stuff out report back and we can continue the discussion.

Thanks for the threads Steve
I have read them (not all of them) and have some more ideas for my van. I will start of by spaying the whole body inside with Noxudol 3100.

Then rockwool and mdfboards in celling and walls. I cant make a floating floor since the van is to small.

I have a plan to put asfaltrubber inbetween the mdf-boards. To make a damping effect and and more mass to the mdf board.

I will try to take pictures as the work comes along.

All the best
Fredrik

Lightbulb Weight and weight distribution is extremely important when designing a mobile unit

One thing you MUST keep in mind...

Weight and weight distribution.
Two very important things to consider, especially when you're building a small van.

You may need to add some more leaf springs and air shocks that can be filled up depending on your load requirements.

IMO, you should weigh everything before you install it into the vehicle.
Even the spray material has mass.

As a quick (dry run) reference, I would place all the construction material in the van and see what the springs and shocks do.
