Talking Alanis Morrisette concert

I saw Alanis Morrisette last night at a soft-seater in Vancouver.

Whether you like her vocal style or not, that girl can sing. Hour and a half straight, impeccable tuning, and no jamming out on the high notes. She's a real pro performer.

Excellent band too, with an enviable Matchless backline. I need to get me one of those amps.

About half the show was "Jagged Little Pill" material. My affinity for that album seems to never cease.

I love her concert video of Jadded Little Pill. It's actually way better than the album, because the sound quality is really better than the album (in the main live performance of the video, which is in New Orleans) and she really can deliver it live, and the band was very good as well.

I'm glad she's performing well again. For a while, she wasn't so hot.

I remember the Bare Naked Ladies opening for her and stealing the show a few years back.

Lots of interesting production on her latest CD. Some good songs too. The intro and verses to "Citizen of the Planet" are fascinating, though the chorus is somewhat disappointing. The backward effects on "Difference" are sweet, plus the cool Lydian vibe. "Not As We" is a great song, though a little cliche-laden, musically speaking. (You can sing Bob Seger's "We Got Tonight" over the intro to that song.) Overall, I really enjoyed this one by Alanis. Nice to hear she's a capable live performer.

Who billed those two acts together anyways?

Barenaked Ladies have tended to steal the show from whomever else was playing. They were made for stage. At festivals they had a bad habit of doing covers of other acts also at the festival and doing them better. I remember once they covered the then-popular song "Informer" by ragamuffin singer Snow just before Snow came on stage. I don't know if they knew who was up next, but they totally upstaged him. Snow also happens to be a relative of BNL's Steven Page.

alanis is one of the few remaining acts that rocks 90's style... iow, hard, without a trace of pretense.

tool and radiohead still work a mean stage too.

I saw her in Minneapolis for her second album cobilled with Tori Amos great show.
Huge fan of Jagged Little Pill also.

Still a sucker for her original long hair look. Heres an older live clip.

Peace Todd

That makes me emotionally erect, as Steve Martin once said. That's the same lineup from the video I mentioned above. Definitely check it out, some great performances with great sound quality. Gives me the chills. The drummer, who went on to the Foo Fighters I think, tears it up quite a bit, and the drum production is really good in it as well.

That's her current look. It's a good thing.

True. It was a no fuss-no muss rock show. Wasn't even any banter in between songs. I think at most she introduced band members between songs and said, "thank you and good night" at the end.

Jagged Little Pill came out when I was still very young and I thought she was hot as hell. I remember seeing a live show of her (Prince's Trust Concert or something like that - it was her, Bob Dylan and Clapton, among others) and she was running around the stage like she was crazy.

I don't hear/see much of her these days, but I'm glad to hear she's a solid performer. I think it might be time to go listen to that old album again...

Alanis is great.
Tori Amos, too, I enjoyed her concert very much.
