Hey… I'm going to pick up a stereo pair of these mics in the near future for studio use and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them for on set recording with either the card or hyper-card capsules. Cheers ~a |

No experience in sound for movies at all, but I was using a cardioid pair some times ago on classical. I think they are really good mics. Pretty much neutral with a touch of dark colour. I sold them to buy Schoeps but I am thinking of getting them again for spots. There is a short sample in Brass Quintet Sample thread. If you cannot afford top class mics, consider MK012. I am sure quality is not as much different as prices are. Good luck! |

I have tried 012's for just about everything, including cinema. In a pinch, they will work on set, however I would get a good shotgun. The 012's are amazingly sensitive, but not nearly as good as a shotgun. If you need a good cheap shotgun, take a look at some of Audio Technica's offerings. If money is no object, get a Sennheiser. For studio recording, 012's are great cheap mics.

I have not used Oktava MK012 mics for film work (I don't do film work), but I wanted to point out that there is now a "film edition" of the mic, which includes a screw-on low-cut filter (to reduce wind noise, etc.) and a hypercardiod capsule. Here is a link from OktavaUSA: MK-012 Figure of 8 Microphone Just FYI, in case you decide to go this route.... Joe |

Oktava 012 hypercardioids are highly regarded as cheap indoor cinema mics in indie circles. You would really pay 3-5 times more for something better like Schoeps or Sanken CS-3. Cheap but workable shotguns?: Rode. |
