Question Recording a tenor, first time

Right, I am going to record a tenor in an untreated room(approx 5mx3m) with an SM58(wont be able to get my hands onto anything else this is last minute) going into an mbox, not the perfect set up to say the least I know! Any suggestions for micing techniques, I have never recorded an opera singer by the way so any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance
Sean

SM58 does not have a lot of reach. He will have to be close to it. Other than eating the damned mic it is hard to get too close., What the hell, rock singers use them! LOL

Unless absolutely necessary (as in impossible to get a balance otherwise) I never allow a singer to get any closer than arm's length.

I forgot to mention that the SM58 is designed to rolloff the LF to counteract proximity effect, so you will have to bring up LF to balance. Better than Xraying the vocal cords, however.

"How far can you back off?"

"Try Cleveland. . ."

I'm recording a tenor here with a crystal mic from a Cracker Jack box. He will be singing while submerged in a mud bath before entering an erotic massage parlor. Do you think I have the right room/mic combination to enter the resulting tape into a prestigious vocal competition?

I really need help with this. Forget about the guy above and help me out.

It all depends on whether his repertoire consists of moaning or if it's third Viennese School Fart Songs.

I think an appropriate technical aesthete would be 8-bit at 192k.

And I am quite interested in the Cracker Jackz mic-- what decade is this? Personally I am quite taken with the carbon mic I recently got from a fire sale. It is REALLY hot, and would be just the thing for your massage parlor "project."
