I have some Avenson STO-2's, some Windtech 2114's, and some Rycote Lavalier Windjammers. When all three are used in combination, it's not enough to prevent wind noise completely. In winds typical for my region anyway. What I'm planning on doing is building some sort of enclosure with pvc pipe and skinning that with some fabric to cut down the wind that the windscreens are exposed to. Now it may be just a pillow case fabric(or pantyhose), or maybe some artificial fur. For now I'm planning on the thinner material. Good ideal or bad ideal? Will it help? Will it potentially add too much noise? Will it alter the sound too much to be considered useful? The current windscreens are good up to about 15 mph winds, more like 5 mph winds for complete immunity. But it's typically windier than that on average in these parts. With the faster winds, it's currently more like a 25% reduction in wind noise relative to having no windscreens. At the moment I'm leaning towards a pvc box design. Although my motivation isn't entirely wind protection. If it pans out, I'd like to put some sort of water repellent measures for the roof portion. Thus allowing exposure to the elements. Obviously NOT ideal, but better than nothing. I figure that the fabric and gravity will take car of any of the horizontal flow. I will of course need to compensate for the higher wind profile of the mic stand. But that's expected. I'm basically going for a dumbed down version of the below without having to involve the microphones as part of the design. I already have windscreens per say, they just need a little help. Mine will likely involve being mounted directly to the stereo bar. And hopefully big enough to allow me to change mics eventually, without extra modifications. 8040's? Crown Sass-P? Thoughts?
