hello im new here just saw you all on google ![]() i have a couple of laverler mics and a trv900e sony camcorder (48kh) the pre amp is of course horrid and hissy so i am looking to upgrade the pre amp to do some binaural recording. maybe someone might have an idea how i could upgrade i have a an e-mu 1616m but i cant seem to use the preamps unless it is atached to a computer( maybe i could trick it ?) i also have a vs 1680 i opened it up to salvage the preamps but they are atached to a large circuit board not really snatchable..i have a tascam ma-ad8 preamp rack unit ive yet to look inside maybe i could rip a couple from there? otherwise i havent much money around 350 uk pounds ( <edit) any ideas or know of a great portable pre i could buy? thanks for any help :P |

For great / portable pre you're probably looking at a Sonosax SX-M2 or Korg MR-1000, among others. Assuming you also need phantom power. And battery power. For $100 you'd be hard pressed to pick up an M-Audio DMP-3 (used). Which runs on a power tether, so not very portable. But functional and decent for all intents and purposes. You could always go with a Radio Shack mic with an AA or AAA battery setup. Delivers fair results and doesn't require a preamp. But if you're going for PRO results, you may still feel disappointed. At the moment I'm leaning towards a Crown Sass-P MK II mic which can run on 2x 9V batteries. But will probably still require a preamp. HTH |

hi thanks for your reply ive had in idea: how about buying 2 x mono pre amp circuit boards without a case/shell then mounting in a cheap home made case? phantom power module can be added and even pots for attenuation.xlr sockets and psu with a battery pack?? i wonder if you can buy one from a spares repairs work shop?? peace fweqy |
