Question Dream Reverb Device for a Classical/Pop Studio

I have a question. If money were not an issue, what would be your single dream reverb device for a studio that records and mixes both classical and pop music?

If money wasn't an issue... distance mics in a great sounding room, surely.

OK, allow me to narrow the thinking. What would be your choice for a hardware reverb device under $10,000 that would be used for both classical and pop music?

Bricasti M7 with remote and a Lexicon PCM96 would be well under $10,000 and would be a very sweet set-up. Or, maybe 2 M7s. It'd be a gas, regardless.

Bricasti M7. The rest are processors.

Another for the Bricasti.. For the realism of classical, nothing else on the market comes close. Version 2 (being released very soon) of the firmware should give more of the "vibe" stuff needed for the pop world.

With $10K, buy 2 Bricastis.

Do you simply mean a normal M7 together with the remote or is there a version in the works without any controls that can only be used in conjunction with the remote?

Yes, Yardstick.

Also for me the most realistic sounding reverb.

could one of you please post a sample clip or two which illustrate the difference between a real Bricasti M7 (or other top end hardware unit) and a good software reverb, such as Altiverb using the Bricasti IRs? thanks.

I've heard good reverb addition on classical recordings from things as low down as Yamaha SPX990's though that wouldn't be my choice. Lexicon 480's, 960's, pretty much any good convolution verb (Altiverb, Waves IR, Digidesign Revibe), Sony hardware verb (sorry can't remember the model number), I understand the Bricasti is good too, though I've not used it.

If you can put it on and you can't hear that it's been faked, it's good. The trick is to understand what you are trying to achieve and what that means in terms of the verb you are adding.

Regards

I love the Bricasti sound, but DO check out the TC 6000 before you buy something else.

Ya have to compare it...it sounds frickin' amazing.

The Lex 960 is also a very good tool.

These are my current "new gear" best top three, since you won't be finding real chambers, or vintage EMT's around.

The Bricasti M7 is a bit better than the Reverb 6000

the Reveb 6000 is better than the Lexicon 960L.

Better, is a very subjective term, particularly when you are talking about reverbs of the calibre of the M6000, Bricasti and 960L. What I think is far more important is their suitability for a particular track or sound you are after. In this day and age we are spoilt for choice, so many options out there, when years ago you were lucky if you had a choice of two or three.

Personally speaking I'm happy with any of the above mentioned and a few others too boot!

Regards

Lightbulb Suitability for a particular (track or) sound is key

Roland,

Well said; I completely agree with your last post.

Wow what an open question! Money no object? Okay I'll bite. I want a setup like Alan Meyerson has - six Bricasti Designs M7s with remote. At least one Lexicon PCM 96, a Quantec and a TC6000.

Your reply: "Fries with that?"

I don't doubt that the Bricasti is a very good reverb, but can somone explain to me what technically Bricasti has done that hasn't been done before. The claims on their site mention nothing particularly new or original, unless I've missed something, it's just another set of processors doing algo's?

Regards
