Yes, you are correct on both counts. We introduced the M7M at this past AES. It is simply an M7 without the knobs and display as you say.

The M1 was not ready for the show. :(

Yes you are right on both counts as well. Just processors and algorithms.

It's an OK algorithm though.

Sure- the Bricasti is just another set of algorithms. Combined in a box with a LOT of DSP and a darned fine set of converters (for analog operation). In that way, it is no different than lexicon's offerings or TC's.

But as you well know, a Lexicon sounds very different than a TC. And a Bricasti sounds very different than both of those.

For me, I can get great results with any of them- they are all high-end boxes. When I've toured, I place all three (M7, 960 or 6K) on tech riders. The TC and Lexicon have been great for live shows because they have multiple engines. With the Bricasti, well... none of the rental houses have them yet and if I want it, I have to bring my own.

From a user's standpoint, what I find is that the Bricasti integrates into a mix in a way that Lexicon and TC don't. There is a realism in the sound where I almost find that I use too much verb because it sounds and works so well. I don't know how many times I've come back to a mix and said to myself "oh my- guess I need to dial that back a little." To compare this to TC and Lexicon, I find that both of thsoe boxes feel more like a reverb effect. I can get them to sit, but in the end I listen to the product and say "that has a good reverb sound."

Small differences, I know, but important just the same.

Ben, your post was very interesting. You put some thoughts and feelings that had been lingering in my head into words. Thanks.
